10th graders:Exercises and Tips for Unit Test


Vocabulary: Different kinds of shoppers: Grazers, minimalists, enthusiasts and traditionalists.

Different jobs: clown, monk, bilingual secretary,puppeteer,

stunt person,sound recordist,nanny,manager, jeweller,driving instructor,

tattoo artist.

Applying for a job: prospects, pension,promotion, qualifications,flexibility,interview,salary, job security,application letter,working hours, retirement,


Phrasal Verbs: do up ,undo: ties,clothes,shoes

keep on/try on/put on/take off:all forms of clothing

get into: clothing that has shrunk

pull up:socks, trousers,skirts,shorts

tuck in:shirts, blouses,ties,vests.

hang up:jackets,coats,dresses (on a coat-hanger)

unzip: jackets, trousers,bags,anything wit a zip.

suit/fit: all forms of clothing, footwear.


Vocabulary on shopping: carrier bag,credit card,second-hand,sell-by-date,for sale,20%off,on offer,checkout,shop window,shopping centre,sports shop,department store,browsing,bargain hunting,budget,receipts,quote,refund,discount,tip,loan,deposit,change,bill.


Having things done: We often use this structure to talk about the services we ask other people to perform for us.


have + object + past participle


My mom had her car washed yesterday.



Exercises: Answer these questions about vocabulary:

Tips for:

Reading Comprehension: a) Look at the title first. b)Skim the text quickly and underline new or important words c)Read the questions carefully. d) Check if there is agrrement between verbs or other words.


Listening Comprehension: a)Read instructions first. b)Underline any word you consider important. c)Listen to the recording carefully.d)Check your answers the second time you listen to the recording.
